Wendy Costa and Linda Reed are among six candidates seeking election to three open seats on the Kent County Board of Education. They will discuss their experience and vision for public education with the Community Breakfast Group (CBG) at our August 28 meeting.

Discipline has been continuing problem in Maryland Public Schools. In an effort to address this problem, our State Legislature has passed a number of laws limiting the possible responses of County School Districts in responding to disciplinary issues. The State Superintendent of Schools has further limited the disciplinary options available to County School Boards in their recently issued document “The Maryland Guidelines for a State Code of Discipline”.

Have these laws and regulations been effective in limiting inappropriate disciplinary actions by the County School Districts? Have they helped achieve their goal of “… creating schools that both are welcoming and academically rigorous, so that students come to school every day, and are provided the educational and emotional tools they need to succeed.”? Join us to learn what our candidates for election to our School Board feel about this important issue.

Nivek Johnson and Michael Harvey are among six candidates seeking election to three open seats on the Kent County Board of Education. They will discuss their experience and vision for public education with the Community Breakfast Group (CBG) at our August 21 meeting.

In her recent message to our community, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Couch writes:

“KCPS has embraced Professional Learning Communities as our process for the systematic change that is necessary to regain a focus on things that matter most. A Professional Learning Community promotes a collaborative culture that empowers teachers to improve student learning by working together. Our instructional staff work together to analyze student data and develop multi-tiered systems that support student learners. Ultimately, we want to ensure our students receive high quality instruction in every classroom, every day.”

Join us Thursday morning to learn what a “Professional Learning Community” is, and what adoption of this process will mean for Kent County Public Schools.
